First of all, im gonna say it now, Spoilers Ahead as I have just seen this movie and I will say if you haven't, this movie tells such an interesting and unique story. Go see this movie, please. Ok, now the entire movie is about Arthur Fleck and how his illness conflicts with him fighting to break free, until Arthur accepts that the laughter is a part of him. Arthur is imprisoned in his own mind, the only way for him to vent is in his notebook, or journal, since the Psychiatrist doesn't really listen, or Arthur just feels that way. Everything his mind creates, like Sophie, is a part of him. I believe that Sophie is Arthur's happiness. It helps him to feel noticed. Until he sees the man in the back of the taxi wearing the clown mask shortly after Arthur kills the 3 men on the subway. Arthur is finally noticed, and the way that he lights up with happiness is something you will rarely see in the movie, a genuine feeling or sense of joy. He says, For my whole life I didn't know if I even existed, but I do know. Arthur is similar to Jack and Heath's take on the Joker. From Jack's humor to Heath's clumsiness. Like when he runs right into the Exit Only door in front of the hospital, he runs into it with full force, and acts like nothing happened, still trying to get in. The scenes where he dances, like in the bathroom scene he looks free, he looks happy, it's scary sometimes. Arthur just wants to make people laugh, like when he says My life isn't a tragedy, it's a comedy. His laugh is terrifying, how he can burst into laughter at any time. Phoenix played the Joker in a way we have never seen before. He made one of the best performances of the Joker ever.

Not gonna lie why does his note book look like every paper Ive ever written. He looks like the guy that sings “somebody that I used to know “. 0:15 people nowadays have problem with everything...
